Teal Arthur

Arthur Teal died Aug. 2, 1899 according to Monroe death register, book B page 147. His age: 1 year, 11 months.  Died in Ida. Parents: Andrew Teal and Mary P. Thomas of Ida.

Teall Asaph

Asaph Teall was born Jan. 6, 1800, the only child of Timothy Teall and his second wife Dorothy Alcott Fott (a widow).  Asaph was born in Onondaga County , NY .  Asaph studied medicine with his father, later abandoning it for law.  He was married in NY state to Saphrona Maria Taylor. Wedding was Jan. 11, 1818. They had 14 children, some born in NY state and some born in Mich.    In 1832 he and Saphrona came to Erie , Mich. in Monroe County .  He bought land for $1.25 per acre. Soon after his arrival in Michigan he was elected Justice of the Peace.  In the 1830’s or 40’s he bought some land on Lake Erie to establish a fishery.   Saphrona died June 3, 1843.

On April 6, 1845 he married his second wife, Anna Elizabeth Hedges.  Asaph and Anna had three children.  Anna died about 1875.

Teall Asaph

Asaph Teall and his wife Saphrona M. Taylor had a son, Joseph Teall.  Asaph’s grandson was Benjamin Franklin Teall, and his great-grandson was Deo Teall.  Deo owned a radio repair business in Milan Asaph and Saphrona also had a son Charles W. Teall who lived in London township.  Charles W. and Cornelia Teall had a son “Charles Elmer Teall” who went by Elmer, and had a confectionery store in Milan .

Teal Aseph

Aseph Teal died May 1 [1879] of old age.  He was born in the State of Vermont on Jan. 6, 1800 as near as can be ascertained. He came to Erie , Mich. in 1833, where he has resided ever since.  Shortly after his arrival, he was elected Justice of the peace and held that office for many years.  His funeral was largely attended at the Presbyterian Church May 4.  Rev. E. P. Willard officiated.  Mr. Teal buried four wives and left his fifth one to mourn his departure.  He was the father of seventeen children, grand-father of 73, and G-grandfather of 60 and G-G-grandfather of one child. Baby died March 3, 1906, stillborn, according to Monroe death register, book B page 270. Parents were Albert H. Teal and Jennie E. Jones both of Ida.

Teall, Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin Teall was born Sept. 18, 1852. His parents were Joseph Teall and Mary Sophia Vandercook.  Benjamin married Martha Vanwormer on Oct. 6, 1871.  They had two children:  1. Burton F. Teall, b. July 30, 1872; died young.  2. Dottie May, b. Nov. 30, 1873, married Warren Mead.  Benjamin married his second wife, Ida M. Winney, on Aug. 9, 1878.  She was born Aug. 6, 1871.  Ben and Ida had six children:  1. Florence , b. Jan. 11, 1880; m. L. D. Greenfield.  2. Emma L., b. Dec.10, 1882; m. Teall, Benjamin

Benjamin F. [Franklin] Teall, more familiarly known to his friends and neighbors as Frank Teall, passed away at his home Saturday, [died in April 1935] following a lingering illness of several months. Mr. Teall was born in Erie , Michigan [to Joseph and Mary Teall] but spent a great portion of his life in the vicinity of Milan . Charles E. Teal was born Aug. 25, 1876 in London township. His father was Charles W. Teal of London twp., a farmer, born in Mich. Mother: Cornelia Teal born in Michigan .  Compare: C. Elmer Teall, same person.

Charles W. Teall was buried in Pool Cemetery on Townsend Road .  He was born 1842, died 1914.  He was a soldier.

On June 25, 1867 Charles W. Teall and his wife  Cornelia Teall sold 40 acres of land in London township to John Pool.  The sale price was $200. Source: register of deeds Monroe County , Liber 96 page 34.  [NOTE: his full name apparently was Charles Wesley Teall.]

Teall, Charles W.

Charles W. Teall was born Feb. 22, 1843 and died Feb. 15, 1914. He was a soldier in the Civil War, in 6th Michigan infantry.  He married Cornelia Overacker on March 20, 1866.  Cornelia died Dec. 12, 1889, buried in Pool Cemetery .  They had eight children: 1. Rhoda A., b. March 19, 1868. 2. Elizabeth M., B. Sept. 9, 1869; d. Feb. 1, 1938.  3. Lucy E. b. Dec.22, 1873; d. Oct. 24, 1914.  4. Charles Elmer., b. Aug. 24, 1876.  5. Claude A. b. Teall Charles W.

Charles W. Teall was born in Erie township, Monroe county, on Washington’s birthday, Feb. 22, 1843. He died Feb. 15, 1914 at his home in London Twp. His age: 70 years, 11 months and 23 days. He was the youngest of 14 children. His parents [Asaph Teall and Saphrona Taylor Teall] were natives of New York state.  His grand-father [Timothy] came from England in 1750.  He was educated in the schools of Erie township and was reared to the work of the home farm. He enlisted in Company D. 86th regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served 3 years. Then he remained on the home farm until March 1864, when he enlisted in the Sixth Michigan Heavy Artillery, Company C., Col. Clark commanding the battery.   [More details of military record.] On March 20, 1866 he married Cornelia Overacker, who died on Dec. 22, 1889. They had eight children, two of whom died in early childhood. On Aug. 23, 1900 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Fournia [who had six children].  Deceased was a member of Milan Lodge No. 323 F. & A. M. having been initiated March 29,1876; passed April 13, 1876 and raised Aug. 18, 1876. He was also an honored comrade of Lucious Taylor Post. No. 325, G. A. R., at Milan , Mich. Cause of death: pleurisy.  Burial at Raleighville cemetery ( Pool Cemetery ).

Ethel Florence Firsdon was born in Berlin , Can. , April 14, 1883 and died March 4, 1920 at her home in London township. On March 17, 1920 she married Claud Teall then of Toledo . Funeral held at London church.  London cemetery.

Claude A. Teall, 73, died Saturday evening [Nov. 18, 1950] in his home in Luna Pier.  He was born Nov. 18, 1877 in London Township , the son of Charles and Cornealia (sic) Teall. Cornelia Teall, wife of Charles W. Teall, was born Oct. 27, 1847, and died Dec. 22, 1889.  She is buried in Pool cemetery.  Their children included daughters Hattie and Juliette.

Cornelia Teal died Dec. 22, 1889. Monroe death register book B page 6.  She was married. Her age: 44 years, one month, 18 days. Cause: Typhoid fever. Father: Martin Overacker. Mother: Sarah Overacker. London .

Teall, Deo

Almyron D. Teall, age 82, 206 Spink Rd. , died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1980 in St. Joseph Hospital , Ann Arbor .  Services at Stevens Funeral Home, with Rev. Vern Campbell officiating. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery , Dundee . Memorials to Lodge 323, Free and Accepted Masons.  The son of Benjamin F. and Ida (Winney) Teall, he was born March 23, 1898 in Monroe County . He was married to Hazel Moore on Dec. 27, 1922 in Deerfield . She died June 10, 1979. Mr. Teall owned and operated a radio and television repair shop in Milan for several years. He is survived by a sister, Florence Griffin of Milan, a grandson, Lawrence R. Case of Milan , and granddaughter Katherine L. Case of Ypsilanti . A daughter, Virginia; a brother and three sisters preceded him in death.  Source: Milan paper.

Edward B. Teal was born Dec. 22, 1879. Father: Jannis Teal of Milan , a farmer. Mother: Emma Teal, born in Michigan .

Teal, Elmer

Elmer Teal, aged 64 years, died Friday evening [November 8, 1940] at his home, 237 Main St. , Milan .  Funeral services at Methodist Church, the Rev. E. C. Stringer, former pastor of that church, officiated and interment at Marble Park cemetery at Milan.  Mr. Teal was born August 25, 1876, in London township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wesley Teal.  
In London township he served as township clerk for six years.  In 1911 he moved to Milan where he served as justice of the peace for eight years. He was a member of the pure food division of the agriculture department at Lansing for four years and had been in business in Milan , operating a confectionery store, for the past 27 years.  In 1901 he married Lottie M. Ambrose, who, with an only son, Maynard, survive.  Other relatives are a brother Claude of Milan and a sister, Mrs. Rhoda Ball.  Mr. Teal was a member of the K. of P. Teall, Elmer

Elmer Teall, 64, operator of the Teall Confectionery store here for the past 27 years, died last Friday [Nov. 8, 1940] at his home at 237 E. Main street .  Mr. Teall was born Aug. 25, 1876 in London twp, the son of Charles Wesley and Cornelia Overacker Teall.  He served as clerk of London Township for six years and as justice of the peace for Milan township for the past eight years.  He moved to Milan in 1911 and established the confectionery store at 28 E. Main street .  In 1901 he was married to Lottie M. Ambrose.  He was a member of Milan lodge, Knights of Pythias and the Maccabees. He is survived by his widow; a son, Maynard W. Teall, of Milan ; a brother Claude Teall, also of this community; a sister, Mrs. Rhoda Ball, Milan ; and several nieces and nephews.  Marble park cemetery.   Source: Milan Leader, Nov. 14, 1940.

Millard Phillips says:  Elmer Teall was the father.  Maynard Teall was the son.  They had a soda fountain on E. Main exactly next to the jewelry store.  Now the soda fountain place has a physical therapy office.  Maynard let the soda fountain get dirty.  The home address for the Teall’s was 237 E. Main .   Lottie Teall registered to vote Feb. 14, 1919, apparently Elmer’s wife.  Deo Teall registered to vote, he had a radio shop on Tolan across from the Opera House.  Millard thinks Deo is not related.  Deo registered to vote Feb. 26, 1929 as a resident of Milan Village .

Joseph Teall was born July 24, 1824 in NY state, and died Jan. 20, 1903 in Ida , Mich.   His parents were Asaph and Saphrona M. ( Taylor ) Teall.  Joseph was married Sept. 6, 1846 to Mary Sophia Vandercook.  Mary was born Jan. 27, 1830, and died Jan. 11, 1854.  Joseph and Mary had four children: 1. Saphrona Maria, b. Lottie M. Teall of 237 E. Main died Aug. 23, 1952, at age 73. She was born July 1, 1874.  She owned a candy store.  Father was John Ambrose. Mother was Susan Thompson. Lottie is widowed. Her husband was Elmer Teall.  Informant: Maynard Teall.  Marble Park .

Lottie M. Teall, 73, died Saturday [August 23, 1952] in her place of business, the Teall Candy Shop, at 28 E. Main St. Coroner Edwin Ganzhorn of Ann Arbor was called.  Mrs. Teall lived at 237 E. Main St. Friends may call at Stevens and Bush funeral home. Rev. Elwyn C. Stringer will officiate, burial in Marble Park cemetery.  Mrs. Teall was born July 1, 1879 at Stony Creek, the daughter of John and Susan Ambrose.  She was married to Elmer Teall Jan. 9, 1901, at Stony Creek. They lived on the Teall homestead on Darling Rd., east of the village, until 1911, when they came to the E. Main St. residence in the village.  Mrs. Teall and her son, Maynard had operated the candy store for 32 years.  Mr. [Elmer] Teall died Nov. 8, 1940.  Lottie was a member of the Methodist Church . Lottie was survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Helen Ambrose of Ann Arbor and Mrs. Sara Hammond Goetz of Milan.  Source: Monroe Evening News obituary.

Teall Mary

Mary Elizabeth Teall was born Sept. 9, 1869 and attended Raleighville School in London Township .  She was the second daughter of Charles Wesley Teall and his wife Cornelia Overacker Teall.  She died in 1938, after being married to Dan Bondy.  She had some other siblings: a sister Lucy Rigdon who died in 1915; Miss Hattie Calhoun died 1934; Elmer Teall of Milan ; Claude Teall; a sister Rhoda Ball, and two sisters who died in childhood.  NOTE: check with Genealogy Friend.

Maynard W. Teall, 1905-1954.  His grave stone at Marble Park is next to Elmer and Elmer’s wife Lottie.  Maynard’s gravestone indicates Masonic membership.

Teal, Maynard

Maynard W. Teal, 49, died Friday [Oct. 29, 1954] in St. Joseph ’s Hospital in Ann Arbor . Services at Stevens and Bush funeral home with Rev. Elwyn C. Stringer of Ann Arbor officiating.  Burial will be in Marble Park Cemetery .  Born Oct. 1, 1905, in London Township , he was the son of Elmer and Lottie Teal. He was graduated from Milan High School in 1927 and received a life teacher’s certificate from Michigan State Normal college at Ypsilanti in 1929.  He then entered business with his father in the Teal candy shop at 28 Main St . , a shop which has been operated for 30 years.  Last January he was appointed by the Michigan Secretary of State to conduct a branch office at Milan . He was in the candy store when taken ill Friday.  He was active in Milan Lodge 188, Knights of Pythias, was the present secretary and had served as chancellor commander.  Nearest surviving relatives are cousins, L. C. Olds of Robinson , Ill. , Mrs. Alma McDonald of Detroit , Mrs. Dora Lidgard of Milan , Mrs. Susan Finkbinder of Ann Arbor , Erwin Ambrose of Ypsilanti and Max Ambrose of Phoenix , AZ. Teall, Rhoda Ball

Mrs. Rhoda A. Ball, age 78, passed away Saturday, June 1, 1946 at the Kleitz Convalescent home at Monroe after a lingering illness.  The daughter of Charles and cornelia Teall, she was born in London twp near Milan , Michigan , March 20 1868. On Sept. 12, 1888 she married Marvin M. Ball of Milan twp. They lived on their farm the entire life of Mr. Ball and until her health failed.  Marvin Ball died March 16, 1928.  She leaves her children Mrs. Florencee C. (Goethe) Brown of Milan, Benjamin Ball of Ann Arbor, William Ball of Monroe, Milton Ball of Milan, Mrs. Bertha Griswold of St. Augustus, Iowa, ten grand children etc., one brother Claude Teall of Lulu, Mich. A son Joseph died in infancy. Burial in Azalia cemetery.  Source: newspaper obit.

Sarah J. Teall died Aug. 27, 1890 according to Monroe death register, book B, page 14.  She was age 70, plus 10 months, 7 days.  Married. Her home was Erie . Father: Harry Olmstead, mother Caroline Olmstead.

Father of Asaph Teall.  Timothy came from England in 1750.  [apparently went to NY State.]

Teall , Virginia

Virginia May Teall was born July 10, 1924, according to birth record.  Father: Almyron Deo Teall of Milan , age 26.  He is electric inspector for Wabash RR.  Mother Hazel Louise Moore born in Dundee . This is the first child born to this mother. Kenneth Noble, MD attended the birth.

 

Tellas Frank

Frank Tellas, 68, of 1145 Dexter St. , died June 10.  He was president of Milan Screw Products Inc. He was born April 20, 1903 in Greensburg , IN , son of Charles and Sarah Tellas. On June 17, 1944 he married Marie Bruder in Rogers City . They lived in Milan since 1949. They had four sons and three daughters.

Terwilliger Thomas

Thomas Wm. Terwilliger lived in London twp when he answered the 1880 census.  He was 38, a farmer, b. NY. Wife Dora, 28, b. NY.

Thompson Hiram

Hiram P. Thompson was the first person to buy stock in the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Milan .  On Feb. 10, 1890 he bought 10 shares at $100 per share. His stock certificate is signed by Mell Barnes.  Source: WBW colum by Warren Hale, April 15, 1992.

Thompson Jack

Jack D. Thompson set up a gas station on the SW corner of Main and Platt in Milan . He once operated a coal yard and sold coal to Henry Ford.  He was born April 14, 1919 to Guy and Mabel Thompson. Had 4 children.  He died June 3, 2007.  He married Wanda J. Thompson, she died Dec. 9, 2005.  He was a member of Milan Rotary, American Quarter Horse Assoc., and People’s Presbyterian Church.  In 1950 he was elected to the Milan Village Council.  Source: obit.

Thompson Mabel

Mrs. Mable H. Thompson, 86, of 205 First St. , died Sunday Feb. 24, 1974. Daughter of Wallace and Lucretia Griffen, she was born Oct. 8, 1887 in Clearwater , Nebraska . She was married in 1914 and moved to Milan .  She is survived by a son, Jack D. Thompson and four grandchildren, etc.

According to Joe Zurawski, the date of death for Dan Throop is 1813.  I don’t know where he got that date.  Throop is buried in Judd Cemetery which was established in 1827.

Dan Throop was buried in Judd Cemetery , York township.  According to cemetery records at Milan Public Library, Throop died Aug. 13, 1847. His age was 73 years and 3 months or 8 months.  So he was born either May 1774 or Dec. 1773. The DAR placed a round medal on his grave indicating he is a veteran of the Revolutionary War.

According to pension records, there was “another” Dan Throop who served in the Revolutionary War.  Records show he was the only vet named Dan Throop.  This Dan Throop was b. 1764, approximately. He was married on Nov. 12, 1788.  He died on May 18, 1824 in NY state at age 60.  On June 1, 1819, he applied for his pension at age 55. When he applied for the pension, he lived in Chenango County , NY .  He enlisted April 1, 1779 as a fifer while a resident of Connecticut .  He was discharged in Nov. 1782. John D. Throop was 26, working as a farm laborer, when census taker arrived at his door in 1880 in Milan township.  His wife Janie was 22. They lived with daughter May, 4, and son Jessie, 3 months old.  Jessie was born in February.

Leonora Throop, daughter of Dan Throop, was married to Edgar Guy of York Township on Oct. 30, 1880.  See “Guy.”

Throop LeRoy

Maude Anna VanWormer Throop died Sept. 2 1931 at age 47.  Her husband was LeRoy Throop.  She was born May 4, 1884 in Michigan .  Her father was Albert Van Wormer and her mother was Nellie Van Wormer.  Informant: Bertha Sheats.
