When
Hazel Ridge 2:11 1/4, the fast and game son of Sphinx
dropped dead at Cleaveland last week Wednesday, not only
his owner, Charles Gauntlett, of Milan, but the whole
breeding interest of Michigan suffered a serious loss.
Hazel was easily the best trotter by Sphinx that hsas yet
appeared, and, hadhe lived, his chances for a place in the
2:10 list were rosy. He was also an elegantly-bred horse,
his dam, Home Maid, having also produced Cora Barlum 2:23
1/2, and the pacer, Cantab 2:14 3/4.
Indivuallyk
Hazel
Ridge
was a very handsome horse and had been a blue ribbon
winner at the horse shows. He was eight years old.
Hazel
