Gauntlett Archie

Archie Gauntlett was born 4-24-1867 and died 11-07-1924.  Marble Park Cemetery records. [NOTE: This birth date is probably a mistake, he was married in 1875, he would have been 8 years old. I think he was born 4-24-1857, making him 18 when he first married.]

Gauntlett Archibald

Archibald Gauntlett was married to Sarah Pool in 1907.  The two lived on W. Main in Milan , where the movie theater was later built.  They had a boarding house, and she attracted up to 100 people for chicken dinner on a Sunday.

Gauntlett Archie

On June 1, 1894,  Archie M. Gauntlett and his wife Emma, of the Village of Milan , sold a parcel of property to Wolverine Lodge I.O.O.F. number 197.  This is apparently where the Odd Fellows erected their building on south side of W. Main Street .

Gauntlett, Archie M.

Archie M. Gauntlett, youngest son of James and Annis Gauntlett [NOTE: Probably Annis Hubbard Gauntlett, James’ second wife], was born April 24, 1857 and departed this life Nov. 7 [1924], aged 67 years, 6 months and 13 days.  He moved with his parents from the Gauntlett homestead, across from Marble Park cemetery, when seven years of age and spent the remainder of his life, with the exception of a short time, in the residence where his demise took place [NOTE: Probably on W. Main, house was moved to make way for Milan Theater building.]  He was married in 1875 to Emma Whaley, who passed on in 1906.  He was again married on Sept. 3, 1907 to Sarah E. Pool, who remains to mourn his departure.  In June, 1922 Mr. Gauntlett was taken sick and from that time has been continually a sufferer. In March of this year he was confined to the bed and only on a few occasions since that time has been able to be around. Death was caused from cancer of the stomach. Mr. Gauntlett was a member of the I. O. O. F. and Rebecca lodges, in which he was an interested worker as long as health permitted.  Besides the widow Mr. Gauntlett leaves to mourn his departure two brothers, Chas. and Richard Gauntlett, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Jackson, besides many other relatives and friends.  The funeral services were conducted from the house on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. Adams officiating. At Marble Park cemetery, where interment took place, the I. O. O. F. took charge of the ceremonial, which was conducted in an impressive manner.

Hazel was easily the best trotter by Sphinx that hsas yet appeared, and, hadhe lived, his chances for a place in the 2:10 list were rosy. He was also an elegantly-bred horse, his dam, Home Maid, having also produced Cora Barlum 2:23 1/2, and the pacer, Cantab 2:14 3/4.
