Robert G. Dailey, known as “Bob,” was listed as being in the “Plastics Mfg.” business, with a residence at 495 Redman Rd. , according to a Milan Rotary club membership roster dated Jan. 4, 1949.

Dalrymple Edward

Edward Dalrymple, 36, farmer, was b. PA, and both his parents were b. PA. That’s what he told the census taker in 1880 at his home in London twp. His wife Cornelia, 35, was b. MI, and her parents were both b. NY. Daughter Louella, 10, b. MI. Son Leslie, 9; and Frankie, 1.

Dalrymple John

Monday of last week, Thomas Dalrymple, son of John Dalrymple, of this village [ Milan ], in company with one Willis Thurston of Carleton, stole a $5 bill belonging to Dalrymple’s little brother and a pair of boots owned by John. They were taken from John Dalrymple’s house east of town. The pair proceeded to Ann Arbor where, after having a good time came back to Milan on Friday, when they were arrested by Constable Redman, on complaint of John Dalrymple, and taken before Justice Marble, who after a hearing, sentenced them as follows: Thomas Dalrymple 20 days in the jail at Monroe, and Willis Thurson 30 days at the same place. Chester Daniels, 34, a farmer, was b. in MI, both his parents were b. in NY.  That’s what he told census taker at his London twp home in 1880. Wife Sarah, 35, b. PA, both parents b. PA. Daughter Ida B., 8, b. MI. Daughter Anna May, 7, b. MI. Son Ora A. 5, b. MI.

Darling Andre

Andre Darling died March 10, 1897. He was one of the boys and one sister who came to Michigan with his father, Fisher Darling.

Darling Fisher

Fisher Darling was living in Mendon, Mass in 1832 or 1833, and decided to go west to Michigan . He was a millright, his wife was a braider for bonnets. Fisher’s daughter and oldest son worked on the project too.  They saved $200 or $300 and on Aug. 14, 1834, set out for the village of Detroit .  There were 4 chidlren: oldest girl was 15 at the time, boy 13, boy 11, and boy 7 years old.  The family stayed at Scio where Fisher had a brother. Fisher bought 120 acres in Section One, London Township in January 1835.  Stayed with a neighbor in London township until the house was built.  Lived in the house for 4 years, then Fisher sold the 40 acres for $400 and a shotgun.  Bought a farm with 120 acres, built a log house there.  Stove was hand made from clay.  Hung a kettle to boil potatoes and venison. Another kettle to bake bread in.  In 1840 Fisher built a 30x40 barn, and in 1843 a frame house with brick chimney. Fanny made brown bread of rye and corn meal and baked in the old brick oven.  Wild animals for game, “Indians a plenty, they were friendly.”  Red Book  

Darling Fisher (younger)

Fisher Darling was the son of Gilbert and Elizabeth Darling.  Fisher had a sister Nettie.  Fisher married Eliza Essex. They had one son, Gilbert, who married Iown Crandall on Aug. 14, 1932. Red Book by Arleigh Squires, page 182. 

Darling Gilbert

Gilbert Darling was married to Harriet Gates. She died at the age of 21 in 1854.  They had an infant son who also died.  Gilbert later married Elizabeth Pelton and they had a son Fisher and daughter Nettie.  Gilbert died Aug. 3, 1875.  He was a boy when he came with his family to Michigan from Massachusetts with his father, Fisher Darling.  Source: Red Book by Arleigh Squires.

Darling Matilda

Matilda Darling was the daughter who came to Michigan with her four brothers and parents from Massachusetts .  Matilda Hardy died Aug. 15, 1905.

Darling Nettie

Nettie Darling was the daughter of Gelbert and Harriet Darling.  She married Waldo Draper and lived in Detroit . They had three daughters, Hazel, Malona, and Neva .  

Darling Orson

Orson Darling died March 13, 1883. He was one of the boys who came to Michigan from Massachusetts with his father, Fisher Darling.  He was working as a cabinet maker and as the local undertaker.  When he fell ill with tuberculosis, he knew it was incurable, so he built his own coffin before he expired.  Source: Red Book P. 182.

Charles Davis elected Trustee of Village of Milan on March 19, 1898.

Nathan H. Davis had a farm residence in Sec. 26, Milan township, illustrated as a drawing in the 1876 Monroe County Atlas.  

Denham Harry

Harry Denham, known as “Denny,” was in the “Iron and Steel Dist.” Business, and lived at 711 Mooreville Rd. , according to a Rotary club membership roster dated Jan. 4, 1949.  

Dennison Ada

Mrs. Ada Dennison Wilkes, 86, died in St. Petersburg , FL where she has lived 20 years. She was the daughter of Jacob and Emily Bodkin Dennison. Ada was born in 1870 in Cone and lived ther 40 years. She married Richard Wilkes in 1917 in Detroit . He died in 1940. Survived by sisters-in-law Hazel Dennison and Bertha Dennison of Milan.

Dennison Charles

Charles Dennison, third child of Martin and Mary Jane Dennsion, was born in Milan twp on the Old Homestead, one mile east of Cone, April 8, 1874. He did July 12, 1924 at age 50, 3 months and 4 days. On March 7, 1900 he married Jennie Mooney. They had seven children. Three sons, Beuland, Frank C., Martin; four daughters, Mrs. Maurietta Stalter, Rhoda, Marjorie, and Ruby Dennison. The youngest, Ruby, died in infancy.  His survivers include his mother; three brothers, John, Elwood, and James D. Riley; one sister, Mrs. George Auten; one uncle, John Dennison, Sr.; one aunt, Mrs. Hannah Hendershot; etc. Funeral at Cone M. P. church, burial in Rice cemetery.

Dennison Elmer

Elmer Dennison, 72, of 419 Wabash St. , died Tuesday (1964). His parents were John and Flora Crittenden Dennison. He was born Sept. 2, 1882 at Cone. He married Lena Landt on April 26, 1900, at Cone. They lived on a farm for 13 years before moving to Detroit . She died May 12, 1948. June 7, 1949 he married Mrs. Winifred Taylor. He was a member of Odd Fellows; Loyal Order of Moose and Methodist church. Had a son, Stanley of Milan.  

Dennison Elmer

Mrs. Elmer D. Dennison, 65, died this morning (May 13, 1948) in her home at 242 Wabash St. , Milan . Services will be Sunday at Cone Methodist Church . The Rev. Charles Bragg will officiate. Burial at Rice Cemetery . The former Lena Landt, she was born Aug. 5, 1882 in Milan township, the daughter of William and Martha Landt. Her marriage to Elmer D. Dennison was April 24, 1909, in Rea Methodist Church . In 1910, they moved to Detroit and in 1917 to Milan village. She was a member of Milan Methodist Church , life member and past president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Milan Church and a life member of the Detroit conference W. S. C. S. She was also a member and past noble grand of Clematis Rebekah Lodge, 1999, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Besides her husband she leaves a son, Stanley of Milan ; sister, Mrs. Minnie Chittenden of Detroit , and five g-children. A son, Vere, and a sister, Mrs. Delia Moore, have died. Source: Obit.  

Dennison Elwood

Elwood Dennison, 79, of 63 First St. , died at noon Saturday [about Aug. 18, 1956]. Born Aug. 24, 1876 in Milan twp, he was the son of Martin and Mary Jane Dennison. He married Gertrude Pillsbeam March 8, 1899 at Adrian . They lived on a farm near Cone for 36 years and moved to the Village of Milan in 1935, where he worked for Ideal Furnace Co. until his retirement in 1946. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March 1949. Survived by wife, a son Harry of Ypsilanti; daughter Mrs. Tressie Wardle of Milan ; sister, Mrs. Frank Auten of Cone; etc. A son, Rolland, died in 1904.  Source: obituary M.E.N.

Eugene L. (?) Dennison died Feb. 23, 1932 at age of 51.  His wife was Hazel Curry. Born June 23, 1880 in Saline, Mich. His occupation: Clerk in store.  Father: Jacob Dennison, born in NY state.  Mohter: Emily Bodkin born in Dundee .  Informant: Hazel Dennison.  Rice Cemetery .

Dennison Emily

Emily Bodkin was born in June 1844, and died Nov. 8, 1907. She is buried in Rice cemetery in Milan township, next to her husband Jacob B. Dennison.  She was born in Michigan .  Her parents were probably born in England .  Emily and Jacob had 4 kids: Ada , b. 1870, d. 1957; Nellie, b. 1874; Orrin L., b. 1876, d. 1947; and Eugene Albert, b. 1880, d. 1932.  Source: Helen W. Dennison Emily

Orrie Dennison was called from Toledo on the death of his mother, which occurred Sunday, Aug. 11 (1907). Funeral services held at the M P. church Tuesday following. Dennison Eugene

Eugene Albert Dennison, son of the late Jacob and Emily Dennison, was born in Saline, MI on June 23, 1880 and passed away Feb. 23, 1932 after a short illness.  When a small boy, his parents moved to Milan township where his father conducted a general tstore at Cone and where “Gene” resided until his marriage Oct. 16, 1909 to Miss Hazel Curry.  He took up farming.  The first few years of their married life was spent on the farm of Charles Ellis, where their only child, Delta Alberta , was born. He lived in the vicinity of Britton after this, later purchasing the farm of the late Dell Jones, south of Milan , where he was director of the Mead School district for five years. He then sold thisproperty moving to Milan .  He was reared in the Methodist Protestant faith and attended church and Sunday Schoool at Cone for amny years. He was a member of the M. W. A. Lodge No. 7879, Camp Henry , of Cone. He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and daughter, his brother O. J. Dennison of Toledo , Mrs. Ada Wilkes of Lapeer and Nellie Dennison of Highland Park.  Source: Obit.

Eugene L. Dennison passed away Tuesday morning (around Feb. 23, 1932). He was 51 and had been a resident of this community all of his life. He was born in Saline. Besides the widow, he leaves one daughter Delta, one brother Orrin of Toledo and two sisters, Miss Nellie Dennison of Detroit and Mrs. Ada Wilkes of Lapeer. Burial at Rice. Source: Obit.

Mrs. Flora Dennison, 78, died Feb. 27, 1937 at the home of her son in Milan . Funeral was held at the Cone church, Rev. Carl Standridge  officiating. Burial at Rice cemetery.  She was born Sept. 9, 1858 in Milan township. Parents were James and Cornelia Crittenden; Flora was one of four children. She married J. E. Dennison April 27, 1875. He died Oct. 17, 1926. Her son and grandchildren (not indicated which was which): Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dennison, MM Stanley Dennison, MM Ervin Bright, MM E. Wayne Squires.

Dennison George A.

George A. Dennison, 65, president of Farmers and Merchants bank here in Milan , died at his home at 242 E. Main St. after a lingering illness.  He was b. Oct. 18, 1864 at Rawsonville, and lived his entire life in the vicinity of Belleville , Saline, Ypsilanti and Milan . A graduate of Michigan State Normal college, he served as superintendent of schools of Milan from 1889 to 1895.  He was a Mason, Shriner, Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of People’s church in Milan . He married Nina C. Hack. She survives, along with nephew, David, of Ann Arbor , and two nieces, Mrs. Stuart Todd of Monroe and Miss Virginia Hack of Lansing .  Rev. R. A. Chapin will officiate at funeral. Burial at Highland cemetery in Ypsilanti .

Dennison George

George H. Dennison, 78, of 19277 Cone Rd. , died Monday in Toledo after a long illness.  (July 1986 news clipping)  Born Nov. 24, 1907 in Milan , he was the son of John and Nettie (Sherwood) Dennison. He retired in 1972 from Ford Motor Co. Preceeded in death by two brothers, James and Clare, and two sisters, Edna and Merle.  Rice cemetery.

Gertrude M. Dennison, 101, formerly of Milan , died Saturday in Whitmore Lake . Burial in Rice cemetery. She was daughter of Henry and Mona (Cheever) Filbeam. She was born Feb. 16, 1880 in Britton. She married Elwood Dennison March 8, 1898 in Adrian and he died in 1956. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.Ralph (Tressie) Wardle etc. She was preceded by two sons, Rolland M. Mrs. Hazel Dennison, 77, of 7602 Rosbolt Rd. , Milan , died Saturday. Burial in Rice cemetery. She was born June 9, 1889 in Cone, the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth Curry. She married Eugene Dennison Oct. 16, 1908. He died Feb. 29, 1932. Surviving: daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Delta) Gibson; two brothers, Raymond Curry of Adrian and Louis Curry of Tomahawk, WI. Mrs. Irene W. Dennison, 75, of Milan died Friday (about June 1, 1987). Born July 13, 1911 in Whittaker, she was the daughter of William and Anna (Osborn) Wanty. She married Stanley Dennison July 28, 1929 in Detroit ; he died Dec. 6, 1985.  She was past matron of Milan-Ruth Chapter 106, Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are 4 sons, William B. of Milan, Gerald of Ann Arbor, Lauren (Larry) of Plymouth and Dale of Milan; daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Arden) Tomecek of Milan; a brother, Clair M. Wanty of Milan etc. 

Dennison Jacob

Jacob Dennison was the first postmaster at Cone and he built the first store there (says WBW and I think it’s in error; previous post masters had served there before him, although perhaps under the name “ West Milan. ”).  His store was on the south side of Cone Road just east of the RR tracks.  His home was on the second floor of the store.  (In WBW 11-15-1989, Warren Hale says Dennison was given postmaster job as a reward for being first to set up a store in the community.  I believe that is an error; William Cone had a store there previously, and left his store to go to California .)

Jacob B. Dennison is buried in Rice Cemetery , it says 1848-1922. Next to him, apparently his wife, Emily, 1844-1907. Two more graves in the row are probably their children, Eugene Albert 1880-1932 and Hazel Curry 1889-1966.

Jacob B. Dennison was born April 15, 1848 in Niagara , NY . Parents: James C. and Margaret Deharsh? Dennison. Died July 19, 1922, buried in Rice cemetery.  Married Aug. 10, 1871 to Emily Bodkin.   Emily’s parents were both born in England .   In the 1900 census, Jacob was living in Milan township, and his work was “Day laborer.”  Jacob and Emily had four children: (1) Ada, b. 1870, m. 1917 to Richard Wilkes, d. Jan. 6, 1957; (2) Nellie, b. Sept. 16, 1957, buried in Highland Park cemetery 1932; (3) Orin L., b. July 16, 1876, married Bertha Liedel on Oct. 21, 1903, died March 5, 1947; and (4) Eugene Albert, b. Dennison Jacob B.

Jacob B. Dennison was born April 15, 1848 in Niagara County , NY and died at St. Joe Hospital in Ann Arbor on July 19, 1922. He was 74 years, 3 months, and 4 days of age. He came to Michigan from New York when he was six. He married Emily Bodkin on Oct. 8, 1871. She died Aug. 11, 1907. They had four children: Mrs. C. R. Wilkes, Miss Nellie Dennison, O. J. Dennison of Toledo , and Eugene Dennison of Milan . Jacob was a member of Champion Tent No. 42 Maccabees of Milan for 40 years. Funeral held at Cone church, buried beside his wife at Rice Cemetery .  

Dennison James

James C. Dennison, 75, of 19183 Cone Rd. , Milan , died Dec. 29, 1973 at St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor . He was born Feb. 24, 1898 in Milan twp, the son of John and Nettie Dennison. He married Helen Olds on June 5, 1919 in Rea , Mich. He was a retired electrician and a member of the Cone United Methodist Church ; Azalia Grange, Pomona Grange, and of the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Surviveors: his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Wyman (Ruth) Hanson of Milan and Mrs. Leslie (Fay) Downing of Britton; 2 brothers, Clare of Detroit and George of Milan , etc. Burial in Rice cemetery.  Source: Obituary.

Mrs. Jennie Dennison, 80, of 11280 Dennison Rd. Milan , died (Feb. 25, 1962) after a long  illness.  She was the daughter of John and Matilda Mooney. Born April 8, 1881 in Milan township. She married Charles Dennison April 7, 1900. He died July 12, 1924.  She was a member of the Cone Methodist church. Survived by three sons, Beuland of Dundee, Frank C. and Martin G. of Milan; three daughters, Mrs. Garth (Maurita) Staulter of Milan, Mrs. J. H. (Rhoda) Baker of Grosse Pointe Park and Mrs. Earl (Marjorie) Thoompson of Milan; two sisters, Mrs.Sarah Boyd of Tecumseh and Mrs. Charles McCarberry of Britton. Dennison John

John Dennison died March 17, 1943 at his home on Cone road where he was married and where he has since lived.  He was born in Milan township May 9, 1867.  He was the eldest son of Martin and Mary Jane Dennison.  He married Nettie Sherwood on April 16, 1891. He was a member of the Masonic order in Milan .  Survived by three sons, Clare of Detroit, James of Milan, and George at home; a brother, Elwood Dennison of Milan , a sister Mrs. Frances Auten of Milan . He had two daughters who died in infancy. Funeral services at the Cone Methodist church and burial in Rice cemetery.  

Dennison John

John Dennison, eldest son of (Illegible) Martin and Mary Jane Dennison, was born in Milan twp May 9, 1867 and departed this life March 17, 1943 at age 75, 10 mos, and 8 days. On April 1, 1891 he married Nettie Sherwood. They had five children: three sons, Clare, James and George, and two daughters, Edna and Merle. The two girls died in infancy. They spent all 52 years of their married life in the home where they were married.  He is survived by his wife, three sons, sister Mrs. George Auten; one brother Elwood Dennison; etc.  A Masonic funeral was held at Rice Cemetery . He was also a member of the Modern Woodman and Azalia Grange.  Source: Obituary. 

Dennison John

John Dennison, 75, died early today March 17, 1943 in the home on Cone road where he was married and had since lived. He was born in Milan township May 9, 1867, the son of Martin and Mary Jane Dennison. April 16, 1891 he married Nettie Sherwood.  They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary April 16, 1941. Funeral services were held at Cone Methodist Church .

John “ Denison ”, age 33, was a farmer, b. in NY, when census taker arrived at his home in Milan township in 1880.  He was probably born about 1847 approximately.  He lived with his wife, Flora, age 20, and son, Dudley, age 3, and daughter Hattie, age 1.

Dennison Martin

Martin E. Dennison was born in Wilson, Niagara county, NY July 26, 1844. He died Sunday Oct. 8, 1922 at age 78, 2 mos. and 12 days. In 1854 he migrated from NY to Michigan with his parents and brothers, settling in the woods of Milan township where they cleared a home. On Sept. 8, 1864, at age 20 he enlisted at Jackson , Mich. in Captain Tanner’s Company K., Ninth regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry, Colonel W. W. Deffield commanding.  The regiment was at once ordered to report to Gen. Thomas at Atlanta , Georgia . Among the engagements: the battle of Chicamauga and Nashville and following this the regiment continued in the south until the close of the war, being discharged in June 1865 and paid off at Nashville . Mr. Dennison’s record was creditable to him in every way and at all time he had the esteem of his comrades and respect of his officers. On return he married Mrs. Mary J. Webster Riley April 24, 1866. They had four children: John; Mrs. Francis Auten; Charles; and Elwood. Besides his wife and children he leaves one stepson, James D. Riley, thirteen grandchildren etc. Burial at Rice cemetery.  Source: obit

Martin “ Denison ” was 35, a farmer, and b. in NY according to 1880 census in Milan township. His wife, Mary J., 35, was b. in Mich. They lived with son John, 13; with a son or daughter named “Frank” and listed as “daughter” (this may be error) age 8. Also son Charles, 6, and son Elwood, 3.

Nellie Denison was born Sept. 16, 1874 in Milan township. Her father, Jacob, born in NY, was a farmer. Mother, “Emely,” born in Michigan . Source: birth records Monroe county.  

Dennison Nettie

Mrs. Nettie Dennison, 81, died Tuesday July 28, 1953 in her home at 19277 Cone Rd. , Milan township, after a lengthy illness.  Burial in Rice cemetery. The daughter of Homer and Martha Sherwood, she was born May 26, 1872 in Milan township. She married John Dennison on April 16, 1891 in the home in which she died. He died March 17, 1943. She is survived by three sons, Clare of Detroit, James of Milan and George of the Milan township residence.  Two daughters have died.  Source: Obit Monroe Evening News.

Orrin J. Dennison, 70, a native of Monroe county, died Wednesday March 5, 1947 at his home in Toledo . He was born July 16, 1876 on Dennison Road in Milan Township . He married Bertha Liedel Oct. 21, 1903 in St. Joseph ’s church, Maybee. He worked as a pattern-maker for the last four years at the Kent Owen Corp. in Toledo .  Burial at St. Joseph ’s Church, Maybee.

Orrin L. Dennison was  b. July 16, 1876, married Bertha Liedel on Oct. 21, 1903, died March 5, 1947.  He was the son of Jacob B. Dennison and Emily Bodkin Dennison.  He had two sisters, Ada and Nellie, plus a brother Eugene.  Source: Betty Gay in Rockwood , Mich.

Stanley E. Dennison, 75, of 12525 Wabash Rd. , who owned and operated Dennison’s Grocery from 1934 to 1962, died Friday night (around Dec. 7, 1985) at Saline Community Hospital .  Born May 15, 1910 in Detroit , he was the son of Elmer and Lena (Landt) Dennison.  He married Irene Wanty July 18, 1929, in Detroit .  In addition to the grocery store, he was a rail clerk for the local Wabash depot for more than 30 years.  He was a Mason.  Survived by his wife; 4 sons, William B. of Milan; Gerald of Ann Arbor; Lauren (Larry) of Plymouth, and Dale of Milan; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Arden) Tomecek of Milan; 17 grandchildren etc.  Burial at Marble Park Cemetery .   Source:  Obit.

Dennison Stanley

Stanaley “String” Dennison and wife Irene operated a grocery store at 419 Wabash . He was a clerk on the Wabash RR in 1929. His business opened June 3, 1933.  That location later became known as the “Old Shack.”  A year after opening his business, he moved across the street to the Sam Birman building, (“now Lee’s Radiator Shop” WBW Aug. 2, 1985). The Dennison Grocery remained there until 1941. Then Stan bought Sarah Wilson’s home at 419 Wabash St . The house was moved back and a new grocery store built in front. Stan’s parents, M&M Elmer Dennison, moved into the back house. Stan and Iren had kids, Bill, Gerald, Larry, daughter Arden, and son Dale. In 1962 Dennison Grocery closed for good. Lee Denton was a pall bearer in 1898 for the funeral of Clayton L. Allen.  Lee was picked for the job because he was about the same age as Clayton-- 20.
