Wilfred L. Churchill

Wilfred L. Churchill, 80, 346 Freemont St. North Port, died Saturday in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Port Charlotte.

Born in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, Canada, he came to this area from West Bloomfield, Mich., in 1962.

He was associated with the Production and Standards Department of the Chevrolet Division of General Motors Corp. He retired in 1962.

He was a member of the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in North Port; the North Port Yacht Club; the North Port Civic Association; the University Club of North Port; the North Port City planning board (14 years); and a director of the North Port Bank.

He leaves his wife, Marie L. Churchill of North Port; a son, Donald N. Churchill of Milan, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn L. DeLisle of Longwood, Fla; a brother, Randolph Churchill of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clifford A. McKay officiating. Burial will follow at the Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.

To dedicate Churchill hall

Wilfred Churchill, who died this past summer, will be honored at the Adult Educational Center next Monday, October 2nd, at 10 a.m.  The present building will be dedicated as the "Wilfred Churchill Hall" in appreciation of Churchill's interest and activities as a member of the Board of Governors.  Churchill was active in many organizations within the City, as well as in church work, and is sorely missed in many places within the City. The public is invited to attend the short ceremony.

The ceremony will be simultaneous with the start of classes for the Fall term on October 2nd.  There is still time to sign up for the classes in Beginners' Bridge, Spanish, German, Household Plant Care, Creative Writing, Photography, Dancercise, Macrame, and Art.
