Husband: William McKindley. Born November 8, 1786 in Galway, New York. His parents were John and Ann McKindley, both Scottish immigrants.  He was the oldest of eleven children. He married Martha McLean on January 26, 1813, and had four children. John was a captain in the standing army [according to Mom]. The coat of his uniform was left to W. H. McKindley, and the sword was left to John McKindley of Osakis, Minnesota. William died November 8, 1821 in Galway.

Wife: Martha McLean. Born July 11, 1789 in Cambridge, New York. Her parents were Francis McLean and Mary Hill McLean. Martha was widowed in 1821 when she was 32 years old. Several years later, in 1825, she created a needlepoint sampler giving birthdates and other information about her parents and siblings. The needlepoint gives her name as "Martha McKindley."

She eventually remarried. Her second husband was John McAuley. She had three children with John McAuley.  

Martha McLean had her picture taken late in her life.  Click on PHOTO. She died September 22, 1857. Her grave marker gives her name as Martha McLean McAuley.

CHILDREN:

1. John McKindley, 1814-1887. Married Ruby C. Loomis, 1818-1900.  He lived in Mexico, New York, and operated a tannery there.
2. Mary Ann McKindley, born around 1815 or 1816.  She died sometime around the mid 1870's.
3. Francis Lane McKindley 1817-1896. He married Susan M. Reynolds and had a son named John Archie McKindley. Archie was the grandfather of Jack McKindley, a genealogist living in western Michigan with his wife Nancy.
4. William McKindley. (Our ancestor.) Born February 25, 1820. Died in 1847. His wife was Mary Ellis. They had two children: John E. McKindley, born 1845, and Francis Austin McKindley, 1847-1922.
