Foerst, March 26, 1899 NOTE: Marie Louise Foerst (Mrs. Wilfred Churchill) was the grandmother of Martha A. Churchill. NOTE: Marie L. Foerst had no memory of her oldest brother, "Gus," who ran away from home before Marie was born. Gus was a violin maker. NOTE: Marie's full name was Marie Louise Foerst. Her middle name, Louise, is apparently in honor of her older sister, who died before Marie was born. It is interesting to note that Louise was married in April 1893 and died less than six months later.
PART III August did not marry. Louise married Grant Leonard, Shepard, Michigan, April 17, 1893 Frank married Margaret Engler, Beal City, Michigan, October 15, 1907 Susan married Andrew Shankie, Detroit, Michigan, July 20, 1907 Carrie married Neil Whiting, Mt. NOTE: These 12 people had Julius Franz Foerst as their father. "Frank" was in the Kaiser's guard in Prussia, probably in about 1871. He was over 6 feet tall and had red hair and a beard. He was feared by his children, and had a reputation for being a mean guy. When Marie was a child, she remembers that the farm and family home were lost in Mt. Pleasant because their dad gambled it away while drunk. That property in Mt. Pleasant was probably sitting on an oil field, because when Marie laid awake at night, she could hear wagons going by on a road 20 miles away, since the sound carried so well across the oil field. After that, the family moved to New Baltimore. This information was supplied by Donald Churchill, based on what he heard over the years from his mother (Marie L. Foerst) and other relatives. NOTE: August ran away from home as soon as he was old enough to leave. He never kept in communication with his family. Some of his siblings found out he was in California and made contact with him shortly before he died, but they never knew much about him life, because he kept to himself.
